Job Summary

As a part of Calgary Economic Development’s Strategic Intelligence Team, the Manager, Knowledge Management, will help the organization and its stakeholders continuously improve their abilities to source, manage, and exchange information relevant to Calgary’s economy and CED’s operations. The Manager, Knowledge Management, will work with internal and external collaborators to design, develop, and manage CED’s tools, processes, policies, and systems related to improving the accessibility and usefulness of a wide variety of information and data.

Key Responsibilities

Lead capacity-building efforts to help CED better use and contribute to developing data / information related to economics, competitive intelligence, and business intelligence:


  • Lead engagement of internal CED partners to develop and maintain understanding of user-centric stakeholder data / information needs, including content, experiential,and workflow considerations.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and implement capacity-building and change-management strategies to enhance CED usage and appreciation of data and strategic intelligence
  • Advise, facilitate and procure the design, development, and maintenance of CED tools, systems, policies, processes, and training related to data / information management


Manage sourcing of economics, competitive intelligence, business intelligence, and strategic foresight data and information:

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to continuous curate and maintain strategic portfolios of data / information content and sources.
  • Establish relationships with community data/information holders and collaborators, including leading negotiations of data/information access and sharing agreements.
  • Manage procurement of data/information, including subscriptions, service contracts, and ad-hoc/custom orders.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in economics, Information and Communications, Information Management, or Business Administration, or equivalent work experience. Master’s degree in a related field is an asset

Experience

Minimum 5-8 years progressively responsible experience in a directly related area, during which professional capability has been clearly demonstrated.
Minimum 1-2 years leading projects, including workflow, resourcing, budgets, etc.)

Note: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Demonstrated experience being an individual change-leader in engaging a broader community of data / information users about complex needs and considerations
  • Demonstrated experience managing design and development of data/information management tools, systems, and processes in the contexts of small / medium-sized organizations
  • Experience sourcing economics data/information; Familiarity with sourcing comprehensive competitive intelligence data / information is an asset
  • Experience with different data/information platforms and systems applicable to the contexts of small / medium-sized organizations
